CONTROL OF ODONTJUA BY DDT and BHC INSECTICIDES

چکیده
A paper on the subject of grass-grub and subterranean caterpillar control was read at the -1950 Grassland Conference at Invercargill; the work has been continued and the Ashburton Station has issued a pamphlet giving more definite recommendations than in the previous paper. The present paper is confined to control ,of grass-grubs, but the same treatment will automatically kill porina (subterranean caterpillar or Oxycanus). Though control recommendations are included and will be published in this paper, it is intended to confine remarks to factors that can prevent good control by DDT and BHC. The recommendations are :1. For general grazing land or where a pasture life of not more than 2 years is required whew grass-grub alone is present use either: (a) llb of 100 per cent parapara isomer DDT per acre or its equivalent at lower percentages, e.g., 21b of 50 per cent ppi ; 41b

Part two contains...

were responsible for the transmission of a large number of human and animal diseases. A major proportion of mortality among men and animals is definitely attributable to the attacks of these pests. Besides mortality their direct effect on human life and economy, due to decreased vigour and work is enormous. Moreover, in live animals, they directly inflict a variety of forms of physical damage; ...

Introduction: Malaria is still an important health problem in southern Iran. Anopheles stephensi is one of the most important vectors of malaria, especially in urban areas. Because of long time of chemical insecticides against vectors in endemic areas and their potential resistance to such chemicals, it is necessary that vectors continuously to be assessed against susceptibility level. We...

Organochlorine pesticides such as DDT were long ago banned in America and Europe but due to their persistence their metabolites are still detected in the environment. In Greece, organochlorine insecticides such as DDT were extensively used before 1972 (Albanis et al. 1994). Coastal wetlands, which are widespread in Greece, are areas where pesticides from the agricultural activities of extensive...
متن کاملDegradation of endrin, aldrin, and DDT by soil microorganisms.
Twenty microbial cultures which had been shown to degrade dieldrin were tested to determine their ability to degrade endrin, aldrin, DDT, gamma isomers of benzenehexachloride (gamma-BHC), and Baygon. All isolates were able to degrade DDT and endrin, whereas 13 degraded aldrin. However, none of them was able to degrade Baygon or gamma-BHC.
